Vietnam and Japan have reiterated their commitment to enhancing cooperation between their ruling parties and legislative bodies, as senior officials from both nations met in Hanoi. The discussions involved Nguyễn Duy Ngọc of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP). The two sides emphasized the ongoing growth of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, agreeing to bolster political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, building on Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent visit to Vietnam.
During the talks, Nguyễn Duy Ngọc highlighted Vietnam’s robust economic performance and continuous administrative reforms. He suggested that Japan share its insights on local governance and decentralization to aid in Vietnam’s institutional development. Additionally, he advocated for increased collaboration in various fields such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology. The Vietnamese official also called for stronger ties between their countries’ parliamentary friendship groups and sought greater engagement among young lawmakers.
Another significant topic of discussion was the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. The Vietnamese delegation requested sustained support for this community and proposed simplifying visa procedures, with a long-term aspiration of achieving visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens visiting Japan.
Hagiuda Koichi expressed Japan’s support for expanding bilateral cooperation, emphasizing that the LDP and the Japanese parliament would continue to promote exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This commitment aims to further solidify the strong ties between the two nations.
