In a move set to enhance international connectivity, Saudia, the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, has revealed plans to initiate direct flights between Riyadh and Tokyo starting November 2026. This new route will feature thrice-weekly flights from Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport, a venture developed in partnership with the Air Connectivity Program and the Saudi Tourism Authority.
The introduction of this route is poised to bolster tourism, trade, and business exchanges between Saudi Arabia and Japan, while simultaneously expanding global access to the Kingdom. This initiative aligns with the broader objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, the National Aviation Strategy, and the National Tourism Strategy, all of which aim to establish Saudi Arabia as a premier hub for tourism and logistics on the global stage.
To further support this endeavor, the Saudi Tourism Authority is actively collaborating with Japanese partners to promote travel packages, seeking to attract more Japanese tourists to explore the Kingdom. This strategic move not only aims to boost tourism but also to strengthen cultural and economic ties between the two nations.
As Saudi Arabia prepares to host the AFC Asian Cup in 2027, the new flight path is expected to ease travel arrangements for attendees, enhancing the Kingdom’s readiness to welcome international visitors for the event. Saudia’s expansion efforts are underscored by its current service to over 100 global destinations and plans to augment its fleet with 112 new aircraft, reflecting its commitment to increasing its international footprint.
