Rupert Grint is set to make his return to the iconic role of Ron Weasley in the Broadway production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” This marks a significant comeback for Grint, who last portrayed the beloved character more than a decade ago in the Harry Potter film series. The actor will join the cast for a 17-week stint starting in February 2027, bringing a familiar face back to fans of the wizarding world.
Grint, who starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson in all eight films of the franchise, expressed excitement about revisiting the character. “Ron Weasley has been a part of me since I was 11 years old and I can’t wait to meet him again at this stage of life,” he said. The actor noted that returning to Ron Weasley, now depicted as a father, offers a blend of nostalgia and novelty.
This announcement follows another recent reunion from the Harry Potter universe, as Tom Felton stepped into his film role of Draco Malfoy for the Broadway production. Felton’s engagement on stage is set to conclude in January, paving the way for Grint’s much-anticipated arrival.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” initially premiered in London in 2016 and has since expanded globally, with the New York production alone generating over $532 million. The show’s worldwide success is reflected in the sale of more than 14 million tickets, underscoring its enduring popularity.
Grint previously debuted on Broadway in the comedy “It’s Only a Play” in 2014 and has since diversified his acting portfolio with roles in “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His return to the Harry Potter universe coincides with the development of a new television series for HBO, poised to introduce the magical saga to a fresh generation of viewers.
