In a significant development for defense relations, Japan and Australia are set to enhance their military cooperation, with Japan planning to test hypersonic and other standoff missiles on Australian soil. This initiative was unveiled by Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles and his Japanese counterpart Shinjiro Koizumi in Canberra. Under this arrangement, Australia will provide Japan with increased access to its missile testing ranges over the next ten years, marking a pivotal step forward in bilateral defense collaboration.
Koizumi highlighted the importance of allowing Japan’s Self-Defense Forces to conduct missile tests in Australia, emphasizing that it signifies a major advancement in their partnership.
